Homeschooling with Weaver

We are starting the Unit Four Chapter 6 - Famine, Water Cycle, Rivers, Ponds and Oceans. It is a ten day unit, so want to spend time fishing and maybe go to the Seaside Aquarium while we are there ;).

After that -
Unit 5 Ch 7 - 10 day unit on Plant Kingdom, reproduction of plants and agriculture. And plan to get garden ready during this.

As for the kiddos levels-
Josiah can read three letter words, and is learning th, sh, wh a bit still. The rest of the blend have yet to be introduced. He knows some words by sight, and sounds out really well. Especially when the letters are larger. For math he is doing simple intro adding and subtraction. 1/-1 2/-2 etc.. Anything under the total being under 10. Plus he can do doubles adding by sight now. 1+1, 2+2 etc through 9+9. We learned telling time by standard clock by the hour and 1/2 hour but it will be something we are reviewing, same with coins pennies and dimes so far mostly. He is doing a lot of writing on his own. Trying to write words out phonetically so his notebook often has three lines of writing for one sentence. Meaning he writes what he wants (one sentence). I write it correctly below, then he copies it correctly below that. He is really enjoying it and doesn't fight it. We are still going through the 100 Easy Lessons with him using the DISTAR worksheets and it is going well. I am supplementing SAXON math right now with worksheets from McMillian and others that were in the folders you gave me. I made copies so Isaac can use the originals later. Josiah needed a bit more focus than Saxon had, so the extra worksheets are helping.

Isaac knows all his sounds, learned th, sh, and wh but it needs more review, especially the last two. He sometimes has trouble blending so we are going slowly through the 100 Easy Lessons and Distar worksheets. He is about 1/2 way behind Josiah. Which is fine, I supplement him with the notebook work, and workbook from Costco. he is very good at copying, but doesn't write much on his own, instead he asks how to spell things. When he does I tell him the sound or letters. Yesterday I left one word "Dad" up to him and he got it! He knows more & less, all the shapes, colors and is very good at matching. We put things in sets of 10, and are just soon going to start regular adding and subtracting. We do it using manipulatives and stories, but not actual problems yet. He also has been introduced to telling time and coins. I have both kids join in when doing the manipulative stories.. especially Josiah's. He is using Saxon K right now, and it is right at his level so far, and I add in worksheets from your folders.
